The selections include pieces in a variety of media including graphite, colored pencil, soft pastel, oil pastel, air brush, water color, ink, oil, and intaglio. Informed by her passion for architecture and diverse interests ranging from nature and science to history and science fiction, the works on display demonstrate Gretchen’s facility in exploring diverse styles, from abstract art to architectural illustration, and varied subjects.

“It is with great pride, and in honor of our friend and colleague, Professor Gretchen Maricak, that we present this exhibition,” noted Dierdre Hennebury, chair of lectures and exhibitions for the College of Architecture and Design and Lawrence Technological University. “As a licensed architect in the State of Michigan, Gretchen worked in the firms of Minoru Yamasaki and Harvey Ferrero and as an architectural consultant. A dedicated teacher and talented artist, she served on the faculty of Lawrence Technological University’s College of Architecture and Design from 1977 – 2016. Always honing and sharing her craft, Gretchen was involved in her community in a multitude of ways. An engaged member of the Colored Pencil Society of America Detroit Chapter 104 for many years, she also served on the Birmingham Historical Museum & Park Board and the Birmingham Historic District Study Committee.”
