Description: One of the most inimitable artists of the last three decades, Jim Shaw descends upon and makes use of dystopic, suburban American motifs, cult ideologies, counterculture iconography, and an unrestricted range of material from the ever-evolving cultural scene. Raised in suburban Michigan before relocating to Los Angeles, Shaw’s work enunciates the nuances of American life, consumer malaise, and religious zeal with theater sets and backdrops, banners and posters, drawing, painting, ephemera, found paintings and performance.
