Join us for a panel discussion featuring journalist Tracie McMillan and moderated by Ford Curatorial Fellow Scott Campbell examining the high costs associated with being poor in the United States. From bank fines and exorbitant pay day loan interest rates, to the inability to purchase necessities in bulk, there are a myriad of extra expenses that are tied to poverty. In the world’s wealthiest country, why do we add an extra layer of burden to those already most vulnerable? This talk will examine this additional costs, how local, state and federal policy have brought these conditions into being, and what can be done about them moving forward.
