What’s in a Name? Riot, Rebellion or Revolution?
by Max Herman, New Jersey City University

Max Herman is an Associate Professor of Sociology at New Jersey City University. His presentation will explore the historical memory of the events that occurred in Detroit and Newark, New Jersey during the summer of 1967, focusing on the terminology that people use to describe those events. He wll consider how the choice of labels impacts the way that people see those events in light of current and future social, economic and political conditions.
