MDI to Host Neighborhood Cleanup May 3

Spring is finally here! It was a particularly intense winter this year and it took a toll on our neighborhood. In effort to bring a little shine back to the district, we'll be hosting a volunteer cleanup day on Saturday, May 3. We're hoping that you will be able to join us.

This year, we'll be focusing on two major areas – North Cass and New Center. These pockets remain a focus for MDI as we continue to make investments here. This summer we'll be programming New Center Park and planting the median flower beds along Grand Boulevard. We're also working on the Midtown Viaducts project and preparing to make enhancements in TechTown. As foot traffic and attention to these areas increase, it's important for the neighborhood to look as clean and cared for as possible. We also have many exciting projects in the North Cass area including the creation of a dog park, the construction of an additional green alley, and continued real estate development.

On the day of the cleanup, volunteers will begin arriving at the Wayne State University Welcome Center (42 W. Warren) at 7:30 AM so that groups can begin making their way to their designated cleanup areas at 8AM. Gloves, tools, and garbage bags will be provided. At noon, volunteers will meet back at the Welcome Center to enjoy a complimentary lunch.

You're also welcome to take this opportunity to cleanup around your Midtown location rather than joining one of our cleanup groups. We can ensure that gloves and garbage bags are available to you and that we pick up these materials after the cleanup.
