The Pistons are starting to make good on their goal to make their new practice facility an integral part of the community with retail options.

The team announced Wednesday a partnership with Plum Market to open a grocery store and café available to the public in Detroit’s New Center area inside the team’s new headquarters and practice facility, which is under construction and schedule to be completed in summer 2019.

Brigid Beaubien, who co-owns the 8 Degrees Plato Beer Co. beer stores with her husband, plans to open Urbānum, a home décor essentials store, in Detroit's New Center area in the spring.

The space at 6545 Woodward Ave. was previously home to Hi-Fashion Ladies Wear.

Now that we have launched initiatives in Africa and Asia , we are intentional in bringing to light the intersections of this wonderful community. Detroit City of Design & the Future of Work | Exhibition

In March 2017, Detroit was invited as Guest City of Honor by fellow UNESCO City of Design Saint-Etienne, France to present a series of exhibitions exploring the future of work at the 10th International Design Biennale in Saint-Etienne to an audience of more than 230,000. Together, these three independent, multi-disciplinary exhibitions offered a survey of the city’s interconnected movements and explored imagined futures as the definition of work itself changes in Detroit.
