Karmanos Cancer Institute
Karmanos is one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States.
Based in Midtown Detroit, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute is a unique, urban-based integrated center of research, patient care and education, dedicated to the prevention, early detection, treatment and eventual eradication of cancer. Karmanos is one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States.
The center cares for nearly 6,000 new patients annually on a budget of $265 million and conducts more than 700 cancer-specific scientific investigation programs and clinical trials. The honor of being one of the very best cancer centers in the nation is achieved through the commitment of 1,200 staff, including nearly 300 faculty members, and the support of thousands of volunteers and financial donors.
Karmanos’ long-term partnership with the Wayne State University School of Medicine enhances the collaboration of critical research and academics related to cancer care.
