MDI’s initiatives are shaped by the collaboration of key community stakeholders and are supported by the many dedicated funders that recognize the importance of Midtown’s revitalization and its positive effect on the community. We are involved in over 30 collaborative projects and programs that address the challenges and opportunities of the greater Midtown Detroit community. Over the years, MDI has addressed and overcome barriers to growth taking on new initiatives that have significantly developed and improved the community. These changes have sparked tremendous growth and heightened visibility making the Midtown community a prime destination for visitors and residents.
Through planning with area stakeholders, underutilized areas in Midtown can be transformed into attractive, healthy, safe districts that will support revitalization.
Beautification & Maintenance
Midtown is attractive and inviting through initiatives that improve and beautify area parks, main streets, medians, streetscapes, public spaces and the Midtown Greenway.
Midtown has changed its urban image from bleak to an inviting culturally-rich and fast-growing community - and a top destination in the metropolitan Detroit area.
Real Estate Development
MDI has helped transform the area’s abandoned lots, boarded up buildings, and run down homes into attractive useable spaces that can house people and new businesses.
Midtown packets, neighborhood guides, and MDI’s website provide valuable information about Midtown’s amenities and invite people to be a part of what we have to offer.
Planning & Economic Development
MDI’s district planning, design guidelines and Woodward corridor, façade and security improvements, small business assistance and more have help to revitalize Midtown.
