The Chamber Music Society of Detroit is on the move this year with a mission to introduce its acclaimed tradition to new audiences in Midtown and downtown.

Extending the reach of the world class musicians it presents at the Seligman Performing Arts Center in Southfield, the new DetroitinDepth series will include events at five intimate locations in Midtown with an eclectic mix of artists and ensembles.

A pairing of electric and acoustic guitarists Wayne Gerard and Sean Blackman, Sin Hielo combines Detroit's grit and modern jazz with the heaviness of Flamenco and rock to form a Detroit jazz and world music hybrid. Arrive early to sample meads from B. Nektar and enjoy food from Seva, The Majestic and Vincente’s. Tickets are just $25 in advance, $28 at the door.

Opening Friday, August 3, the 2012 exhibition season at Work Detroit continues with, America! 

In recent years, America as a place, culture, and concept has increasingly become the material of artists. We see artists repurposing all things American —corporate brands and logos, music, fashion, flags, Presidents, taxidermied deer and bald eagles, American Indian motifs, and political advertisement references.

Music in the Key of "D": Detroit Jazz, Then and Now

On Tuesday, August 28 from 6 – 7:30 p.m., the University of Michigan Detroit Center is proud to present, Music in the Key of “D”: Detroit Jazz, Then and Now. Open to the general public, this event includes complimentary admission, parking and light refreshments for all attendees.

In celebration of the Detroit Jazz Festival, this entertaining and educational panel discussion examines the city’s rich jazz heritage from its earliest beginnings to present day influences.
